Curd Rice / Mosaranna

This is a dish so simple to make that it can be prepared on days when you are just not in the mood to cook something that takes time. If spending very little time in the kitchen is the goal of that day then curd rice is the right choice. It’s the easiest dish I can think of whenever I am not interested in spicy food or want to eat something light. This is also a good way to use left over rice.

Curd rice or mosar anna in Kannada is usually curd (yogurt) mixed with rice. There are different ways to enhance the flavor of this simple dish; one of them is by tempering it.

You can use homemade curd or Amul / Mother Diary /Nestle probiotic curd.

Ingredients
Rice – 1 cup
Curd – 500gms
Mustard seeds – 2 tsp
Jeera(Cumin)  - 1 tsp
Urad dal – ½   tsp
Curry leaves -  a handful chopped
Green chillies – 2 slit
Ginger – 1” chopped
Coriander leaves -  a handful
Salt as per taste
Method
1.          Cook rice or you can use left over rice
2.          Add  curd and salt to the rice.
3.          To prepare the tempering ,in a pan heat oil and add mustard seeds
4.          After the mustard seeds have spluttered, add jeera, urad dal, green chillies and ginger.
5.          Finally add curry leaves.
6.          Add the tempering  to the rice.
7.          Chop coriander and add this to the rice
8.          Serve with pickle.

Note: You can also add pomegranate and grapes to this for the sweet and sour taste.
